Boiled Edamame

Edamame is great as either an appetizer before sushi, or as a snack all by itself.

You will need:

  • Edamame
  • Salt (course salt is best)
  • A bowl

Directions:

  1. Get some edamame.  It is usually sold in grocery stores in the U.S. either (or both) with the shell and without the shell.  Sometimes it is in the frozen vegetable section.
  2. Packaged edamame may have more specific directions, but all you really need to do is boil some water.
  3. Put the edamame in the water.  If the edamame is inside a shell, you do not need to take it out.
  4. Test the edamame beans after a few minutes – it is sort of like cooking spaghetti, in that usually edamame is cooked until it is softer.  You may like it a little more firm, however.
  5. When ready, strain out the edamame.
  6. Sprinkle the salt (course salt is best) over the edamame.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy!
